Real estate transactions can be tricky with lots of twists and turns. Unfortunately, many real estate agents won't tell you everything you need to know in order to make a smart, informed decision. I want to change that! I'm here to give you the inside scoop on successful real estate transactions.
Negotiation is Key
One of the biggest secrets to successful real estate transactions is negotiation. Some agents will tell you that the asking price is non-negotiable, especially in a super hot market, but that's simply not true. With the right negotiation tactics and a knowledgeable agent on your side, you can often secure a better deal than you thought possible. Having an agent who has danced this dance before - they may have a different way to look at things that you would have never thought of! Use an Agent!!
2. Don't Be Afraid to Walk Away
Another secret to successful real estate transactions is knowing when to walk away. Sometimes, a deal simply isn't worth the hassle or the cost. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment. If a deal isn't right for you, be willing to walk away and find a better option. I always tell my clients - TRY to keep your emotions under control. Sales come together and fall apart all of the time - and at every step of a deal. And if it's just getting to be too much, know yourself well enough to know when to walk away.
3. Research, Research, Research
Research is key when it comes to successful real estate transactions. Do your due diligence on the property and the neighborhood before making an offer. Additionally, research the current market trends and pricing to make sure you're getting a fair deal. And you know who can help you with knowing about these sort of things...? YEP! And Agent who knows the area, knows the market, and has done a lot of this sort of research!
4. Get a Home Inspection
Getting a home inspection is a crucial step in any successful real estate transaction. An inspection can uncover hidden issues and potential problems that could cost you thousands of dollars down the line. Don't skip this important step!! Now, sometimes, there can be reasons to forgo an inspection. But I have a hard time letting my traditional, normal purchasing clients (i.e.- NOT investors) waive inspections.
5. Choose the Right Agent (insert shameless plug here)
Finally, choosing the right agent is key to a successful real estate transaction. Look for an agent who is knowledgeable, experienced, and willing to tell you the truth, even if it's not what you want to hear. A good agent will have your best interests in mind and will work tirelessly to help you achieve your real estate goals! So find an agent you "click" with, who knows what they're doing, and get moving!
Don't be afraid to ask questions and do your due diligence (on properties, and on the people you will work with!) to ensure a successful transaction. Let's make some great things happen! Cheers!
